Wind Chime Materials Can Be Found Around The House

A family summer spent at the beach is a glorious bundle of memories that will live in each family member’s heart as the dog days of summer blend slowly into the cold crisp nights of fall. The summer sun, warm sand and cold icy waves grow to be only fond memories as the days slip by into the autumn chill. But it doesn’t have to disappear so quickly, taking the time to create a summer sea shell wind chime can create a visual reminder of the fun and family memories that were made over the summer holiday.

Look Around The House For Wind Chime Materials

Wind chime materials are very easy to locate by just taking a quick look around the house. First, gather up all the special seashells that everyone brought home as treasures form the family vacation. Count the total number of shells that you have gathered into one group. Try to decide upon six or eight shells that are fairly small but uniform in size. They do not all need to look alike but should be close enough in size that your wind chime will hang evenly.

Inexpensive Wind Chime Materials Can Be A Colorful Solution

The next wind chime materials you will need to locate will be colorful string or ribbon upon which to hang your seashells. You can choose to use all one color or pick a variety of colors that complement the colors found in your seashells. If you would prefer to use thread or fishing line, either of those would work just fine. It is important that you securely attach the seashells to the line of thread, ribbon or string. An easy and child safe way to attach the shells is with white liquid glue, allowing seashells to dry overnight. If you prefer to assist in the attaching of the seashells, it is possible to use a small craft drill to drill tiny hole into each shell and tie ribbon to the shell.

Recycled Plastic Coffee Can Lid Provides Top Of Wind Chime

The final part of the wind chime material list is a plastic coffee can lid, from a larger coffee can. This lid will provide a solid base to attach the seashells and ribbons. When attaching the seashells, be sure that the small holes drilled in the lid are large enough to let the ribbon or string through the lid but small enough to not allow the knotted ribbon to slip back through.

When all the seashells have been attached, drill or punch two more holes into the lid on opposite sides. This is where you will attach the ribbons by which the wind chime will hang from the roof or ceiling.
